NORMAN, Okla. - The University of Oklahoma volleyball team returns to action Wednesday evening facing third-ranked Texas in a 6:30 p.m. CT contest from Gregory Gym in Austin. The Sooners (8-12, 4-8 Big 12) look to end October on a high note, while the Longhorns (16-2, 9-1Big 12) seek their 11th straight win.
Freshman setter Brianne Barker recorded her 10th double-double of the season with 24 assists and 10 digs on Saturday evening as OU fell to second-ranked Nebraska, 3-0. Barker added three kills and hit a team-high .375 clip. Sophomore Sarah Freudenrich was the Sooners' top scorer with eight kills. Freshman Caitlin Higgins added 10 digs and freshman Danielle Alva had a season-high eight digs. Freshman Suzy Boulavsky and redshirt sophomore Francie Ekwerekwu each had four block assists for the Sooners.
The Longhorns enter the match following a 13-kill performance by Destinee Hooker to knock off BYU, Wednesday night in non-conference action. The victory extended UT's home winning streak to 23 matches. Texas' lone conference loss was to second-ranked Nebraska on Sept. 20.
Oklahoma returns home Sunday afternoon to take on Baylor in a 2 p.m. CT contest from McCasland Field House. Fans are reminded to set their clocks back one hour Saturday evening. The team hosts Sooner Kids Club Day and the first 250 fans in attendance receive an OU volleyball drawstring bag. The team will also sign autographs following the match.
