NORMAN, Okla. - The University of Oklahoma volleyball team dropped a 3-0 decision to the Nebraska Cornhuskers on Saturday evening at McCasland Field House. The Sooners (8-12, 4-8 Big 12) kept the match close but the second-ranked Huskers (20-0, 11-0 Big 12) were too much, winning 25-21, 25-16 and 25-13.
"I thought that we took care of the first set well," said OU head coach Santiago Restrepo. "Then, we just got frustrated. We just weren't able to run our offense how we wanted."
Freshman setter Brianne Barker recorded her 10th double-double of the season with 24 assists and 10 digs. Barker added three kills and hit a team-high .375 clip. Sophomore Sarah Freudenrich was the Sooners' top scorer with eight kills. Freshman Caitlin Higgins added 10 digs and freshman Danielle Alva had a season-high eight digs. Freshman Suzy Boulavsky and redshirt sophomore Francie Ekwerekwu each had four block assists for the Sooners.
Jordan Larson led the Huskers with 10 kills, while Kayla Banwarth led NU with 15 digs. Tara Mueller added 11, while Larson contributed 10 on the evening. Sydney Anderson recorded a match-high 40 assists. As a team, the Huskers out-blocked OU 12-5.5.
Oklahoma forced eight ties and five lead changes in the opening set and four ties in each of the last two sets. During the second set, the two teams traded the lead three times, while there were only two lead changes in the final set. The Huskers held OU to its second-lowest hitting percentage this year at .075.
