NORMAN, Okla. - The University of Oklahoma volleyball team hosts the second-ranked Nebraska Cornhuskers on Saturday evening at 7 p.m. in McCasland Field House. OU (8-11, 4-7 Big 12) looks to avenge a 3-0 loss to the Huskers (19-0, 10-0 Big 12) earlier this season.
The Sooners are sponsoring Breast Cancer Awareness Night and are asking all fans to wear pink. The first 250 through the door receive a pink pom pom. All fans who wear pink are eligible to win a $100 gift card courtesy of Circle K.
Oklahoma went 1-1 last week, defeating Colorado 3-0 before falling at Kansas, 3-1. The Sooners had an open date on Wednesday. Middle blocker Sarah Freudenrich was named the Big 12 Rookie of the Week for her efforts during the two-game stretch. The Broken Arrow, Okla. native is the first OU volleyball player to earn a weekly honor this year and the fifth in school history.
In the previous meeting on Oct. 8, OU battled but was unable to upset the Huskers, who won in straight sets in front of a sold out crowd of 4,091 at Nebraska Coliseum. The Sooners fell 25-16, 25-19 and 25-14. All four of Oklahoma's four true freshmen saw playing time. One of those freshmen, Caitlin Higgins, led OU with her seventh double-double of the season with 11 kills and 13 digs.
OU hits the road Wednesday evening to face third-ranked Texas in Austin at 7 p.m. CT.
