NORMAN, Okla. - The University of Oklahoma volleyball team seeks to get back into the win column Saturday evening, facing the 16th-ranked Kansas State Wildcats. The match is set for a 7 p.m. CT start from McCasland Field House. Saturday's game is elementary school and military appreciation night. The first 250 fans in attendance receive an OU volleyball megaphone. The team will sign autographs after the match.
Kansas State is the sixth ranked team Oklahoma has faced this season. The Sooners are facing their second straight ranked opponent and third top 25 team in two weeks. The most ranked teams the Sooners have faced in a single season is 10 in 2005.
Oklahoma leads the all-time series with KSU, 44-23-1. The Sooners have won four straight, including the last two meetings in Norman. The last time the Wildcats won at OU was in 2005. In games played on their home floor, the Sooners are 20-11.
On Wednesday evening, the Sooners fell to second-ranked Nebraska, 3-0. All four of Oklahoma's four true freshmen saw playing time, including defensive specialist Kylie Cowan who saw action for the first time this season. One of those freshmen, Caitlin Higgins, led OU with her seventh double-double of the season with 11 kills and 13 digs.
OU also got offensive help from the other two freshmen in the starting lineup. Setter Brianne Barker tallied six kills on the evening and added 25 assists, while right side hitter Suzy Boulavsky added five kills. Barker led OU in hitting percentage, tallying a .417 clip on the night. Cowan tallied a season-high five digs. Sophomore Jasmine Powell started for the first time in her career and recorded a career-high nine digs and five assists.
Following this weekend, OU continues its homestand by hosting Colorado on Wednesday, Oct. 15 at 7 p.m.
