Sooners Finish Season at No. 8

NORMAN, Okla. -- The University of Oklahoma football team finished No.
8 in both the final Associated Press media poll and USA
Today Coaches poll released Tuesday. Oklahoma
(11-3) earned the program's 41st conference championship
and won 10+ games for the 30th time in 2007. No program
has had more 10+ win seasons than OU.
The Sooners finished in the top 10 of the AP poll for the 35th time since the service began in 1936 (72 total polls). The 2007 season also marked the sixth top-10 finish in nine seasons under head coach Bob Stoops.
Oklahoma was ranked in the top 10 during all 16 weekly AP polls of 2007 rising as high as No. 3. The Sooners were No. 8 in the preseason poll.
OU and the AP Poll
Oklahoma has a long and illustrious history with the Associated Press poll since the service began in 1936. The Sooners have been ranked in the top five more than any other team and ranked No. 1 for 95 weeks (tied for No. 1 with Notre Dame). OU has finished No. 1 in the final poll and crowned national champions by the wire service seven times.
Oklahoma has been ranked in 68% of all weekly AP polls since 1936 -- more than half the time in the top 10 and one-third of the time in the top five.
