MOSCOW, Idaho - The No. 21 Oklahoma volleyball team closed out the Idaho Classic with a win over host school Idaho, 3-0 (30-26, 30-25, 30-21) in the tournament final on Saturday night. The Sooners closed out Saturday with two wins after beating Oregon State earlier this afternoon and now own a 5-1 record.
Sarah Weiland and Bridget Laplante were named to the all-tournament team. Laplante led the team with 4.30 kills per game during the tournament while Weiland averaged 4.10 kills per game.
"I was really proud of the way our team bounced back the rest of the tournament after our loss on Friday night," head coach Santiago Restrepo said. "Our passing really improved, which led to some great sets by Julie Chester. It was good to see our team answer to adversity well and to see them play better on Saturday."
It was no surprise that Weiland and Laplante led the Sooner offense in its final game against Idaho. Weiland was very consistent with 15 kills on a .500 hitting percentage while Laplante added 14 kills for the Sooner offense that recorded a .228 hitting percentage against Idaho.
Julie Chester tallied 44 assists while adding three kills and collecting nine digs. Hannah Sharp continued her stellar defense with a match-high 14 digs while Mariana Blum added her third double-double with 11 kills and 11 digs.
Francie Ekwerekwu led the defense at the net as she notched three block assists while Laplante and Weiland added two each.
Oklahoma will return to tournament action next weekend (Sept. 7-8) for the San Diego Tournament. The Sooners will take on No. 12 San Diego as well as Virginia and UCSB in the four-team field.
