NORMAN, Okla. - University of Oklahoma men's basketball sophomore guard Tony Crocker will miss the team's exhibition trip to Canada this weekend due to an injury suffered during practice Tuesday.

Crocker sustained traumatic compartment syndrome, requiring a surgical release of blood from his lower left leg on Tuesday night.  The injury occurred toward the end of OU's practice, which was open to the public, when Crocker was unintentionally kneed by a teammate.  His recovery is expected to take three to six weeks, according to athletics trainer Alex Brown.

Said OU head coach Jeff Capel, "Tony has been our most consistent guy in practice over the last week.  He's really focused on making the jump from a guy who had a solid freshman year to a guy who is a very good player.  This is a minor setback, but it provides an opportunity to some of our other guards."

Crocker joins junior guard Austin Johnson as players who will not travel with the team to Vancouver this weekend when OU plays four exhibition games in three days.  Johnson has not practiced with the team in any of the Sooners' seven workouts due to a lower back injury.

Crocker, from San Antonio, Texas, averaged 8.6 points and 3.7 rebounds last year while leading Oklahoma with his .357 3-point percentage.  His 25 starts also paced the team.
