Baseball Summer League Update #3

NORMAN, Okla. -- Throughout the summer, SoonerSports.com will bring fans weekly updates of current Sooners competing in the numerous summer baseball leagues around the country. Fans can also access information on former Sooners playing in Major League Baseball and its minor league affiliates.

The third installment, along with links to each of the players' statistics, are listed below:

COLLEGIATE SUMMER LEAGUE
Sophomore Andrew Doyle (Hyannis Mets) continues to shine in the Cape Cod League. The right hander is one of five hurlers with a league-leading three wins. In his most recent outing, Doyle lasted six innings and struck out five in the win over the Chatham A's. On the season, Doyle is 3-0 is his three starts with nine strikeouts and a 3.43 ERA across 21 innings of action.

Noteworthy
-In the Great Lakes League, senior Ryan Mottern (Delaware Cows) has tossed six innings with 4.50 ERA and seven strikeouts.

-Incoming freshmen Matt Hoffman (Midwest Nationals) continues to be one of the club's top offensive threats with a .441 average, three homeruns and 17 RBIs.

OKLAHOMA IN THE MINORS
Val Pascucci (Albuquerque Isotopes) will play in the AAA All-Star Game on Wednesday, July 11th at Isotopes Park in Albuquerque, New Mexico at 7:35 pm (EDT). Pascucci is leading his club with 21 homers and 71 runs driven in.

Noteworthy
-2B Derek Wathan (Omaha Royals-AAA) recently drove in two runs off a homer and hit .300 against the Oklahoma City RedHawks. In limited action with the Royals, Wathan has seven RBIs in 14 games played.

-Geoff Geary was recently sent down to the Ottawa Lynx (AAA) were he is 0-1 in two appearances with three strikeouts.

SOONERS IN THE MAJORS
Jason Bartlett's 12-game hitting streak was snapped on July 1 at Detroit. Bartlett continues to start at short for the Twins and has hit safely in 14 of his last 16 games. He has also driven in nine runs in that span, including two RBIs in the club's most recent series with the New York Yankees.

Noteworthy
-Rocky Cherry (Chicago Cubs) was called up for the second time this season from Class AAA Iowa. Before being placed on the 15-day disabled list, with a muscle strain in his right leg, Cherry pitched two innings of relief against the Milwaukee Brewers on June 30. Cherry is still listed on Chicago's 40-man roster.
