Volleyball Finishes Spring with Win

NORMAN, Okla. The Oklahoma volleyball concluded its spring season after winning the Sooner Tournament at the McCasland Field House this past Saturday.  The Sooners defeated North Texas, Missouri State and Arkansas to finish out the season.

OU defeated North Texas in the opening match and won by scores of 15-5, 15-9, 15-9 and 15-8.  The Sooners went on to sweep Missouri State, 15-12, 15-12 and 15-10. 

Oklahoma played Arkansas in the tournament finale and avenged a loss to the Razorbacks in its opening game of the 2006 regular season.  The Sooners defeated Arkansas, 30-32, 30-20 and 15-12.

2007 Schedule

The offense was impressive in the opening match of the tournament as the squad hit a combined .532.  Anna Stadel led the way with a perfect 1.000 hitting percentage after tallying eight kills and zero errors.  Sarah Weiland and Bridget Laplante followed with a .571 clip and .555 clip, respectively.

Redshirt freshman Francie Eckwerekwu led the way in the match against Missouri State with a .500 hitting percentage while Weiland followed with a .428 clip.

Laplante was the highlight of the match against Arkansas as she collected a match-high 17 digs while also recording a .333 clip at the net.  Weiland led the offense with a .444 hitting percentage.

The Saturday tournament marked the end of the spring volleyball season.  The Sooners won two of their three tournaments over the spring.  

Oklahoma, which is coming off its best season in school history, will open the 2007 season in the Howard McCasland Field House with the Sooner Invitational (Aug.24-25).  In addition to OU, the four-team field will include Denver, Seton Hall and Alabama.
