NORMAN, Okla. Head volleyball coach Santiago Restrepo announced the addition of Jackie Fotu to his 2007 signing class. Fotu, a juco transfer from the College of Southern Idaho (CSI), signed her National Letter of Intent Wednesday to play for the University of Oklahoma. Fotu, who spent only one year at CSI, is the fifth player to sign with the Sooners for the 2007 season.
“Jackie is an extremely aggressive player in all aspects of the game,” Restrepo said. “She can put up a great block at the net which will be a great advantage for us. In addition to her blocking, Jackie is very skilled in passing and defense and will be a strong contribution to this team.”
Fotu started at middle blocker as a freshman for CSI and played in all 43 matches, leading the Golden Eagles to a 29-14 overall record. The Alpine, Utah, native averaged 2.23 kills per game as well as 0.53 blocks per game for the College of Southern Idaho.

Fotu becomes the second Sooner under Restrepo to come from CSI as former Sooner All-American Eliane Santos was a two-year standout with the Golden Eagles before joining the Oklahoma program.
As a senior in high school, Fotu was named one of the top 100 seniors in the country by PrepVolleyball.com. Fotu guided Lone Peak High School to three state title games, including two state championships. An All-State and all-region selection, she was a two-time member of the USA-Intermountain Region Youth team as a prep player and was named Lone Peak High School's All-Around Player of the Year.
Also joining Fotu this fall will be setter Samantha Arriaran (Norco, Calif.), outside hitter Megan Bess (St. Louis, Mo.), middle blockers Chrissy Disarro (Plano, Texas) and Sarah Machen (Mobile, Ala.), all of whom signed during the early signing period in early November.
The Sooners, who had a record-breaking season in 2006, are replacing five seniors from last year's 12th-ranked and NCAA Sweet 16 squad. The senior class will go down as one of the best in OU history as all five received All-Big 12 accolades with Anna Monsen earning Co-Libero of the Year recognition and Eliane Santos collecting Co-Defensive Player of the Year honors. Additionally, Santos and Joanna Schmitt were named third team and honorable mention All-Americans, respectively.
