NORMAN, Okla. The University of Oklahoma women's golf team is ninth place through 18 holes of play at the Big 12 Championships after shooting a team score of 315 (+27) today. The Sooners, who are 15 stokes behind leader Texas A&M on the par-72, 6,142-yard Ridgewood Country Club Golf Course in Waco, Texas, are just seven strokes out of second place.
Leading OU in the first round was Heather Wright. The junior fired 4-over par 76 and stands in a five-way tie for 10th place. Sophomore Kendall Dye shot a 79 (+7) and is in a tie for 30th place, while freshman Chelsey Collins and junior Kelly Jacques shot eight over (80) and are tied for 37th. Senior Megan Goodwin is in a tie for 53rd place after shooting an 83 (+11) in the first round.
“We had a very rough day,” OU head coach Carol Ludvigson said. “We're glad we are only seven shots out of second place. Putting was a major issue today but we're working hard to putt more confidently tomorrow.”
