OU Climbs Leaderboard at Big 12s

NORMAN, Okla. The University of Oklahoma women's golf team climbed the leaderboard at the Big 12 Championships to finish Tuesday's second round in sixth place. The Sooners entered the day in ninth place and moved up three spots after shooting a 314 (+26) on the par-72, 6,142-yard Ridgewood Country Club Golf Course in Waco, Texas. OU's two-round 629 (+53) trails leader Oklahoma State by 18 stokes.
Freshman Chelsey Collins and junior Kelly Jacques helped the Sooners to the tournament's fourth-best score of the day as they both shot a five-over-par 77. Collins and Jacques stand in a tie for 24th place. Junior Heather Wright shot an 80 (+8) to drop 11 spots into a tie for 21st place. Sophomore Kendall Dye sits in a tie for 32nd after also carding an 80, while senior Megan Goodwin is 22-over par and in 52nd after back-to-back rounds of 83.
“The weather was a little rough today,” OU head coach Carol Ludvigson said. "I'm proud of our girls for hanging in there and pulling up the leaderboard. We're ready to climb a couple more spots tomorrow."

Oklahoma State took the lead in the team standings after shooting a 303 in the second round. The Cowgirls hold a four-shot lead over first-round leader Texas A&M.
Despite the rainy weather, Kansas' Amanda Costner was able to keep a firm grip on the top spot in the individual standings, leading the pack by seven strokes. Costner fired a second-round 73, the best individual score of the day. The senior is looking to become the first Jayhawk women's golfer to capture the individual title.
The final round of the Big 12 Championships will begin Wednesday at 8:30 a.m. CDT.
