Weiland Earns All-Region Honors

NORMAN, Okla. - Oklahoma volleyball player Sarah Weiland was recognized by the American Volleyball Coaches' Association on Wednesday as she was named to the All-Central Region honorable mention squad. It marks the second honor for Weiland this season as the right side hitter was also an All-Big 12 honorable mention selection.

Weiland was one of 15 Big 12 players selected to the Central Region squads. It also marks the second consecutive year the Sooners have had at least one representative on the Central Region squad.

Weiland, one of only two starters returning this season, led the Sooners to a second consecutive trip to the NCAA Tournament this season. The Phlugerville, Texas, native was one of OU's most consistent hitters as she averaged 3.29 kills per game on a team-best .291 hitting percentage in 2007. Weiland was also stellar on defense with 0.57 blocks per game.

The Central Region is one of eight regions in the AVCA. All of the first-team selections from each region will now be up for All-American honors.

Weiland and the Sooners ended their season in the Second Round of the NCAA Tournament with a loss to No. 10 Florida in Gainesville, Fla.
