NORMAN, Okla. -- Oklahoma surged to No. 3 in the latest AP, Coaches
and Harris polls released Sunday afternoon. The Sooners
(11-2) rocked then-No. 1 Missouri, 38-17, in the Big
12 Championship Game Saturday night at the Alamodome
in San Antonio. OU became the first Big 12 team to
win back-to-back championships and claimed the program's
fifth conference title in eight seasons and 41st overall.

OU was No. 4 in the BCS standings
and will play Big East champion West Virginia (10-2)
in the 2008 Tostitos Fiesta Bowl in Glendale, Ariz.,
on January 2. It's Oklahoma's sixth BCS bowl game in
the past eight seasons and second consecutive in the
Fiesta.
Initiated
in 1936, the AP has issued 969 weekly polls to date.
In more than one-third of the polls (36%), Oklahoma
has been ranked in the top five. No team in college
football history has been ranked more times in the
AP top five than Oklahoma. OU and Notre Dame are tied
for the most weeks ranked No. 1 at 95 each.
