NORMAN, Okla. - The No. 23 Oklahoma volleyball recorded another sweep over Texas Tech this season as the Sooners downed the Red Raiders, 3-0 (30-23, 30-21, 30-23), in Norman Wednesday night.

Freshman setter Samantha Arriaran, filling in for injured senior Julie Chester, led the squad to its highest hitting percentage of the Big 12 season with a .348 clip in three games.

The Sooners, sitting in third in the Big 12 standings, improved to 19-7 and 11-5 in the league. The Sooners are one win shy of recording back-to-back 20 win seasons. The Red Raiders fell to 7-18 and 1-15 in the league.

"I thought Samantha Arriaran did an outstanding job leading our offense tonight," head coach Santiago Restrepo said. "We had four different players record double-digit kills and also had four hit at least .300 or better. I also thought our passing was much improved from our last match. I'm very pleased with the way we played and looking forward to a bye weekend so our team can rest and prepare for the final stretch of Big 12 play."

Arriaran, making only her second start of her career, recorded 55 assists and collected a team-high 12 digs against the Red Raiders.

Senior Sarah Weiland was instrumental in the strong offensive performance as she recorded a team-high 18 kills on a .600 hitting percentage. Weiland only recorded three errors in 25 total attempts. Mariana Blum followed with 13 kills while Bridget Laplante and Francie Ekwerekwu added 11 each.

Defensively, the Sooners held Texas Tech to a .221 clip with no Tech player recording double-digit kills. Blum collected her team-leading 15th double-double of the season with 11 digs on the night while Ekwerekwu highlighted the front row with three block assists.

The Sooners led the entire first frame as they jumped out to a 16-8 lead. The Oklahoma offense was on fire in game one as it recorded a .457 hitting percentage with only two attack errors the entire frame. Arriaran recorded 20 assists as Blum led the way with seven kills and Wieland added five for the OU offense.

The OU offense was just as steady in the second frame as OU notched a .400 clip with Stadel and Weiland leading the attack with five kills each. The Sooner defense stepped up in frame two holding the Red Raiders to a .167 clip. Arriaran led the defensive effort in the second set with five digs while Ekwerekwu added two block assists.

The OU offense cooled in the third frame as it only recorded a .204 clip, but Weiland did not as she led the squad with eight kills in the final frame. The Sooners never trailed in the final game.

The Sooners will enjoy a bye weekend this Saturday and will return to the Field House next Wednesday, Nov. 14 when they face Baylor at 7 p.m.
