NORMAN, Okla. -- Junior goalkeeper Jennifer Nichols was named the Big 12 Soccer Defensive Player of the Week on Tuesday, for games played from Sept. 7-10, as announced by the conference office.
Nichols recorded three saves on Sunday versus Stephen F. Austin en route to her second shutout of the season. The performance also marked the ninth career shutout in the Tulsa, Okla., native's career, a mark that ranks third all-time at Oklahoma (two shy of second place).
Brittany Timko (Nebraska) was named the offensive player of the week and Nikki Marshall (Colorado) was tabbed the week's top newcomer.

Nichols (2-4) currently owns a 1.00 goal-against average (sixth in the Big 12) and is tied for the conference lead with 29 saves. This week's honor is the second such accolade in Nichols' career. She was named the defensive player of the week on Aug. 29, 2005 after recording her first career shutout against Arkansas.
Nichols and the rest of the Sooners (2-4) begin Big 12 play this week at home against Oklahoma State (4-1-1). The Annual Bedlam Series, presented by the Bank of Oklahoma and Your Oklahoma Ford Dealers, is slated for a 7:30 p.m. start at John Crain Field. OU will conclude its current six-game home stand on Sunday at 7:30 p.m. versus another in-state rival, Oral Roberts.
