NORMAN, Okla. In its first exhibition tournament of the spring, the OU volleyball team was impressive as it swept Baylor, North Texas, Texas State and host school Texas Christian University in Fort Worth, Texas, this past Saturday.
“We have never won all eight games in any spring tournament we have played in so I was really pleased with our efforts on Saturday,” head coach Santiago Restrepo said. “This off-season we have focused on attacking at the net and setting the ball in the middle and it was great to see improvement in that area.”
OU used a .413 hitting percentage as it dominated Baylor, 30-13, 30-18. Last season, OU split the series with Baylor as it took a four-game win over the Bears and dropped another four-game contest in Waco.

The Sooners also had an impressive performance at the net against North Texas as they beat the Mean Green, 30-19, 30-19, while recording a .353 clip in the match.
In other matches, Oklahoma handed Texas State a 30-17, 30-24, loss and won a close match with TCU, 30-28, 30-26.
Individually, Laura Tomes led the offense with a .487 clip while Eliane Santos followed with a .359 hitting percentage. Anna Stadel and Sarah Weiland addded a .283 clip and a .228 average, respectively.
Setter Rachel Jackson was impressive behind the line where she recorded 12 aces and only two service errors in all four matches.
Hannah Sharp and Anna Monsen combined for a strong defensive effort as Sharp tallied 28 digs and Monsen collected 25.
The Sooners will continue their spring exhibitions this Saturday, April 15, as they travel to Houston to compete in the Texas Tornadoes Volleyball Club Tournament.
