No. 25 Volleyball Sweeps Again

OU Pair Named Academic All-District

November 09, 2006 | Volleyball

NORMAN, Okla.   Senior setter Rachel Jackson and junior defensive specialist Hannah Sharp were named to ESPN The Magazine's Academic All-District VI teams on Thursday as announced by CoSIDA (College Sports Information Directors of America).  Jackson represented Oklahoma on the second team while Sharp was named to the third team.

Oklahoma had more honorees than any other Big 12 school in District VI.  Texas A&M, Texas, Baylor and Texas Tech each had one representative on the teams.

Jackson and Sharp have been integral parts in OU's turnaround season as the Sooners are currently ranked No. 15 in the country with a 21-5 overall mark.

OU's starting setter, Jackson, has guided the squad to a top three conference ranking in hitting percentage, assists and kills this season and is ranked second in the conference with her 13.55 APG.  The Arlington, Texas, native is also leading the team with 28 aces on the season (0.32 per game).  Jackson has started every match this season except one and has also started 72 matches in four-year career at Oklahoma.

Sharp has been the first sub off the bench this season and the only Sooner to play in every game this season for Oklahoma.  The defensive specialist adds a spark on the back row with her 1.92 digs per game and has the Sooners averaging two digs more per game than they did last season.

To be eligible, a student-athlete must be a varsity starter or key reserve, maintain a cumulative grade point average of 3.20 on a scale of 4.00, have reached sophomore athletic and academic standings at his/her current institution and be nominated by his/her sports information director. Since the program's inception in 1952, CoSIDA has bestowed Academic All-America honors on more than 14,000 student-athletes in Divisions I, II, III and NAIA covering all NCAA championship sports.

Jackson, Sharp and the Sooners will be back in action at the Field House this Saturday as they take on the Kansas State Wildcats at 1 p.m.   Saturday will mark Fan Appreciation Day, allowing Sooner fans free admission to the match.
