Volleyball Swept By No. 19 Notre Dame

OU Volleyball Falls To Colorado, 2-3

NORMAN, Okla.   The Oklahoma volleyball squad lost its fourth straight conference match in a 2-3 loss to Colorado Saturday night inside the Howard McCasland Field House.  CU jumped out and took the first game, 30-26, but the Sooners bounced back and took the next two sets, 30-24, 30-26.  Colorado answered back with a 30-27 win in game four and won the match with a 15-12 win in the final frame.

Oklahoma dropped to 5-7 on the year and 0-4 in Big 12 play while the Buffaloes earned their first conference win of the season (1-3) and pushed their overall season mark to 5-4.

“I thought it was a very competitive match and it could have gone either way,” head coach Santiago Restrepo said.  “Colorado played well tonight and they deserve to win.  We have to get better offensively and we need to get everybody on the court contributing.”

Offensively, the Buffs out hit the Sooners with Colorado owning a .185 clip and to OU's .132.  However, in the two games OU won, the Sooners hit .267 and .286, respectively.  CU also tallied 62 digs to OU's 47.

OU had its best performance of the season at the net with 18 team blocks.  Senior Jennifer Adams led the way with eight block assists against the Buffs while junior Eliane Santos added two solo stuffs and seven block assists.  Senior Gabriela Tonon and junior Laura Tomes each contributed five block assists.

Junior Joanna Schmitt recorded a double-double with 13 kills and 10 digs while Santos and Tomes added 16 kills and 13 kills, respectively.

 It marked the eighth consecutive match that Santos led the Sooners in kills while also recording double-digit kills.  Tomes' 13 kills marked a season high for the right side hitter who also led the team in hitting percentage with a .478 clip. 

Oklahoma continued to run a 6-2 offense with sophomore Julie Chester and junior Rachel Jackson rotating.  Chester added 28 assists in the five-game match while Jackson quarterbacked the Sooners with 20 assists on the night.

CU's Allie Griffin was too tough for the Sooners as she had a dominating performance with 27 kills and 10 digs on the night.  Lara Bossow also added to the CU offense with 13 kills.

Oklahoma's conference games do not get any easier as they face top-ranked and undefeated Nebraska this Wednesday, Sept. 28 at the Howard McCasland Field House at 7 p.m.  It will mark the third ranked opponent the Sooners have faced this season.
