NORMAN, Okla. -- The Oklahoma soccer team got off to a slow start on Friday at John Crain Field against visiting Texas State, but rebounded to score two second half goals en route to a 3-0 win over the Bobcats.  It was the sixth straight victory for the Sooners (8-1-0), who tied the program's best winning streak set back in 2002.

The win also improved the Sooners' home record to 5-0 this season and 8-1 in non-conference play (the best non-conference record in program history).

“We were maybe not as focused as we needed to be in the first half,” said OU head coach Randy Evans.  “Our effort was not the problem but we regrouped nicely in the second half to score some goals.”

Junior Savannah Scott put the Sooners on the board in the first half with a blast just outside of the box that beat Texas State goalkeeper Paige Perriaz.  The goal, scored at the 36:54 mark, was unassisted.

OU led the shot total 13-3 at halftime and also held a 5-2 advantage in corner kicks.

OU came out strong in the second half, again outshooting the Bobcats, 16-0.  Once again, Scott got involved in the scoring with her second goal of the game and fourth of the season in the 78th minute.  The Norman native was set up on a breakaway by sophomores Allyson Kucera and Lauren Harris, who perfectly placed passes through the opposition's defense.  It was the first career assist for Kucera and the fourth of the season for Harris.

“Savannah scored a great goal in the first half that really took some pressure off our offense,” added Evans.  “She then added onto that in the second half with another goal.  I am extremely proud of the effort she put forth tonight, she really energized our offense.”

Senior Michelle Enos put the game completely out of reach with her third tally of the season at the 85:20 mark.  Senior Kristin Vesely took the corner kick that set up an open Enos on the back door.  Enos volleyed the ball into the back of the net to give the Sooners a 3-0 lead.   The corner kick provided Vesely with her first assist of the season.

Enos nearly added her second goal of the game on a header, near the end of the game, that deflected off the crossbar.

OU led Texas State 29-3 in shots and 9-3 in corner kicks.  Friday night marked the first-ever meeting between the teams and the loss dropped the Bobcats to 3-7 overall.

It was the fourth shutout of the season for sophomore goalkeeper Jennifer Nichols, who improved to 8-1 after facing three shots in the contest.

Nichols, who has played every minute in the Sooners' goal in 2005, has a 0.64 goals-against average and got plenty of support from the offense on Friday night.  That trend has remained constant during the current winning streak as OU is averaging three goals a game over the last six contests (with three shutouts).

OU will return to action for the Big 12 opener on Sunday against No. 21 Texas (3-4-1).  The game is scheduled for a 1 p.m. start in Norman at John Crain Field.  The Longhorns lead the all-time series with OU, 5-4.  The Sooners lead 3-1 when the series takes place in Norman.

“Despite a slow start, tonight was still an encouraging win,” said Evans.  “Our focus now shifts to Sunday's game against Texas, which should be an exciting game.”
