Oklahoma Fans Welcome 2005 Sooners

NORMAN, Okla. -- An estimated 10,000 Sooner fans braved August heat to meet and greet the 2005 OU football team on Friday in Norman.

The annual Meet the Sooners Day brought players, coaches and fans together to celebrate the start of the 111th season of University of Oklahoma football.

The Sooners took individual and position photos to begin Friday morning inside Gaylord Family - Oklahoma Memorial Stadium before meeting with members of the media. The players and coaches then moved to the practice fields south of the stadium to greet Sooner fans and sign autographs.

Milestone Games on the Horizon
Oklahoma's all-time record is 749-285-53 and the Sooners are attempting to become the eighth school in NCAA history to reach 750 victories. With 1,087 games played, the Sooners are just 13 away from 1,100. Nineteen other programs have played 1,100 games. More Info...

Nothing Average About the New Linemen
By physical stature, this the biggest group of offensive lineman to join the OU program under Bob Stoops. The average size of the Sooners' first-year o-linemen is 6-5, 305. Ben Baressi is 6-5, 282; Branndon Braxton 6-6, 300; Brandon Keith 6-6. 320; George Robinson 6-6, 330 and Jesse White 6-5, 282. Add defensive interior newcomers DeMarcus Granger (6-2, 320) and Brian Simmons (6-5, 305) and there are six incoming players that tip the scales at better than 300 pounds.

Add One for Travis Wilson
In adding the bowl statistics to the overall stats (a change by the NCAA prior to last season), one reception for Travis Wilson, a 15-yarder at the 2003 Rose Bowl, was omitted. Therefore his career totals should read 80 catches for 1,005 yards.

The Name and Number Games
In recent years, Oklahoma has had NBA namesakes Tim Duncan (former K), Vince Carter (former C) and David Robinson (current WR), and an NFL namesake in Mark Clayton (former WR). This year, OU adds the PGA with walk-on LB John Dailey (yes, we know the spelling is different) ... WR Mark Clayton wore No. 9 over the last four seasons. Another Clayton, Keenan, is wearing that number now. Keenan is a true freshman DB, who is not related to Mark.
