Shutout Streak Contiues For Soccer In Spring

April 20, 2005 | Soccer

NORMAN, Okla. -- The Oklahoma soccer team played two games at home this weekend, first in Norman this spring, and recorded two more wins, both by shutout.

The Sooners opened play with an 11:30 game vs. the Texas Longhorns '88.  OU got on the board early with a goal from Allyson Kucera.  She scooped the ball over the keeper's reach from 18 yards out.  Kucera scored again off a free kick from Shana All as she skied above everyone for a powerful header to put OU ahead, 2-0, heading into halftime.

The Sooners were able to control the pace of the game throughout the second half and Tenesha Duncan calmly finished a goal past the keeper to make the final score 3-0.

“I was thrilled with the performance," said OU head coach Randy Evans. "We moved the ball great and showed a terrific speed of play against a very good club team.  The defense put in another solid performance and we looked dangerous in attack.”

OU had little time to rest as they played again at 2:30 against the Oklahoma State ODP '88 team.  The game was shortened to 25-minute halves.  The Sooners wasted little time as Savannah Scott broke through the defense off the dribble and played a ball across to Kady Kelly for a one-time finish in the first few minutes.

Less than ten minutes later, Allyson Kucera displayed her dominance in the air once again as she scored off a throw-in from Jenny Jones to make the halftime score 2-0.

In the second half it was once again Savannah Scott on the offensive.  Scott got into the box with the ball, but this time played it past the keeper herself to put the game away 3-0.

“It was another solid overall performance," commented Evans.  "We are playing at a high level for this being a spring game and I think we showed how much we love playing on our home field.”

OU remains undefeated in games played this spring and will conclude the off-season with two contests over the weekend in Dallas, Texas, against North Texas and Southern Methodist.
