NORMAN, Okla. The University of Oklahoma men's basketball team had plenty to celebrate as it held its annual awards banquet Monday night at Lloyd Noble Center on Bruce Drake Court inside the practice facility. The Sooners and approximately 500 fans reflected on a 23-6 campaign that landed OU its first regular season conference title since 1989.
Prior to an evening-ending net-cutting ceremony by OU coaches and players and a Big 12 Championship trophy presentation, 10 awards were presented in categories ranging from Most Improved Player to the Tight White Award (given to a valuable scout team player).
Oklahoma is the No. 1 seed in the upcoming Phillips 66 Big 12 Tournament inside Kemper Arena in Kansas City, Mo. The Sooners have a first-round bye and don't play until Friday at 11:30 a.m. CST when they take on the winner of Thursday's Missouri (No. 8 seed) versus Nebraska (No. 9 seed) contest.
Head coach Kelvin Sampson has guided his teams to three Big 12 Tournament titles over the last four years. The Sooners are 10-1 in their last four Big 12 Tournaments.
