NORMAN, Okla. University of Oklahoma junior guard Terrell Everett was named the Phillips 66 Big 12 Rookie of the Week, the league office announced today. It marked the second such honor for Everett this year.
The 6-4, 185-pound Everett averaged 17.0 points, 3.5 rebounds and 6.0 assists in wins against Nebraska (83-60) and Kansas State (69-68). He was 13-for-20 from the field (.650) over the two games and 3-for-5 (.600) from 3-point range. Against the Huskers last Wednesday, Everett netted 18 points and handed out six assists without a turnover. In the last-second win at K-State on Saturday, the lefty scored 16 points and added six more assists.
Everett has scored in double figures in each of the last six games and is averaging 14.8 points over the stretch. He has led the Sooners in assists in 15 of the last 19 games and has made 36 of his last 38 free throw attempts. On the year, he is averaging 12.1 points, 4.2 rebounds and a team-high 5.0 assists. He ranks second in the Big 12 (league games) in assists with 5.5 per contest.
Everett, who hails from Charleston, S.C., was named Big 12 Co-Rookie of the Week on Nov. 29 following his three-game performance at the Great Alaska Shootout. He and fellow OU junior Taj Gray have been named league rookie of the week a combined six times in the season's 14 weeks. Gray has earned the honor a school-record four times. Junior forward Kevin Bookout has been named Big 12 Player of the Week twice this year.
The Sooners (19-6 overall, 8-4 Big 12) host Kansas (20-3, 10-2) this evening at 8 CST in a nationally televised game (ESPN).
