NORMAN, Okla. The Oklahoma volleyball team fell in three games (24-30, 26-30, 22-30) to No. 10 Missouri, its sixth ranked opponent to face this season, at the Hearnes Center in Columbia, Mo., Wednesday evening. With the loss, the Sooners dropped to 5-14 on the season and 0-10 in conference play while the Tigers pushed their record to 14-2 and 8-2 in Big 12 play.
"I was pleased with our effort tonight," head coach Santiago Restrepo said. "We hung with a top-10 team in the country, but we just need to make less individual mistakes. We played a lot better than we did last year when we traveled here so it's good to see improvement."
In the first game, Missouri came out of the gates strong and led the entire first set. OU's closest margin came at 5-4, but MU took control, outhitting the Sooners .318 to .195.

The following game, OU took its first lead of the match at 3-2, but the Tigers rallied and took the next three points, giving them the lead for good. Oklahoma was able to close the gap at 24-23, but couldn't finish the frame as Missouri outscored Oklahoma 6-3 in the final rallies of the game.
The script was the same for the third and final game. OU fell behind by a significant margin, Missouri dominated offensively and the Sooners couldn't get back into the match. Oklahoma's .050 hitting percentage in the final game was no match for Missouri's .225 effort.
For the 15th match this season, junior Eliane Santos posted double-digit kills. The middle blocker pounded a match-high 14 kills on a .400 clip while also adding five block assists at the net.
Fellow junior Joanna Schmitt put away eight kills while also collecting eight digs and posting four block assists at the net.
Defensively, the Sooners outplayed the Tigers with OU's 49 digs to MU's 44. In addition, Oklahoma tallied 9.5 total team blocks compared to Missouri's 8.0.
The defensive leader for the Sooners was setter Julie Chester who collected nine digs, which tied MU's Tatum Ailes for a match-high. Adding to Chester's efforts, sophomores Hannah Sharp and Sarah Weiland each added seven digs a piece while setter Rachel Jackson recorded six and Gabriela Tonon collected five.
Junior Laura Tomes added to Santos' efforts at the net with five block assists while sophomore Anna Stadel recorded three block assists.
Missouri was led by outside hitters Jessica Vander Kooi and Na Yang who put away 11 kills each. Middle blockers Lisa Boyd and Nicole Wilson also added nine kills a piece.
Oklahoma will be on the road again this Saturday as it enters the second half of Big 12 play with a 12:30 p.m. match up against Colorado in Boulder, Colo. The Sooners fell to the Buffaloes in five games earlier this season at the Howard McCasland Field House.
