NORMAN, Okla. -- The Oklahoma Sooners continued the first week of training camp Thursday evening with a 2 1/2-hour workout at the Rugby Fields on the Norman campus. Quarterback Jason White connected on several long passes and running back Kejuan Jones looked good during team drills as light rain fell and unseasonably cool temperatures greeted fans.
OU coach Bob Stoops said earlier in the week that his team is full of veterans. The intensity of practice has increased each day, which is a good sign to the coaching staff.
“It's been great. Our guys really like to play,” said Stoops, now entering his sixth season at OU. “I appreciate our guys the fact that they play, even practice. They have been going against each other with a lot of enthusiasm, a lot of talking back and forth but nothing cheap. Guys compete hard with one another and slap each other on the back when one side of the ball or the other makes a play. It's fun to watch them. They are really getting after it in a good way.”

Friday's workout is a can't-miss event for fans who are ready for football. OU will practice for the first time in full pads beginning at 5 p.m. at the Rugby Fields. Usually, the Sooners begin the workout with the “Oklahoma Drill,” a chance for players to go one-on-one with all their teammates (and fans) watching.
“Of all people that should start their season off in full pads with the Oklahoma Drill, it should be Oklahoma, right?,” Stoops said. “We get out there and work the Oklahoma Drill and have fun with that. We'll have some good competition."
The team will hold the first of its three preseason scrimmages this Sunday at Gaylord Family - Oklahoma Memorial Stadium. The starting time is tentatively set for 5:30 p.m., although that is subject to slight adjustment.
