DiCarlo Named To Groza Award Preseason List

NORMAN, Okla. -- Oklahoma's junior place-kicker Trey DiCarlo was one of 30 candidates to be named to the 2004 Lou Groza Collegiate Place-Kicker Award Preseason Watch List on Monday. A finalist for the award last year, DiCarlo joins three other former finalists, including last year's award-winner (Jonathan Nichols of Mississippi) on the list.

The Carrolton, Texas, native made a name for himself on the national scene last year after completing a standout sophomore season. DiCarlo set a NCAA record with 74 extra points and ranked No. 4 nationally in field goal accuracy (among kickers with at least 20 makes), No. 13 in scoring and No. 24 in field goals per game. His numbers on the season helped him garner consensus All-Big 12 Conference status.

The presentation of the award will occur at a banquet on December 7 in West Palm Beach, Fla., and additionally at the 2004 ESPN Home Depot College Football Awards Show on December 9 in Orlando, Fla.

Players selected to the watch list were chosen based on their 2003 statistics and preseason expectations. All Division I-A kickers are eligible for the award.

The three finalists are determined by a vote from a panel of nearly 400 expert voters, including Division I-A head coaches, member of the sports media community, conference representatives, professional kickers and all former Groza Award finalists.
