Sooners Named to Watch Lists

July 30, 2004 | Football

NORMAN, Okla. -- The Maxwell Football Foundation has released Watch Lists for its Maxwell and Bednarik Awards and those prestigious lists include three Sooners.

The Maxwell list, which includes those players being considered for Player of the Year honors, includes Sooner wide receiver Mark Clayton and quarterback Jason White.  The Bednarik list, which focuses on candidates for the nation's top defensive player honor, includes OU defensive end Dan Cody.

The 2003 Bednarik Award went to Oklahoma linebacker Teddy Lehman, who is now a member of the National Football League's Detroit Lions.

Clayton already holds most of the school's receiving records.  Last season, he was one of three finalists for the Biletnikoff award as the nation's top receiver when he caught 83 passes for 1,425 yards and 15 touchdowns.

White, the winner of the 2003 Heisman and O'Brien Awards, is back after posting staggering numbers last season.  He threw for 3,846 yards and 40 touchdowns with only 10 interceptions.

Cody was Oklahoma's leader in tackles for loss last season with 17 for 93 yards.  He also had 10 sacks for 65 yards in losses.
