NORMAN, Okla. -- Both of Oklahoma's defensive ends, seniors Dan Cody and Jonathan Jackson, are on the 37-man Ted Hendricks Award Preseason Watch List announced today. The Hendricks Award is presented annually to the top defensive end in college football.
Cody was one of six finalists for the award last season. Including Jimmy Wilkerson in 2002, OU has had at least one player make the semifinal list for the award in each of its two years in existence.
Last season, Cody had 43 total tackles, including 17 for 93 yards in losses and 10 sacks for -65. He also forced two fumbles. Jackson had 48 stops, including 11 for 38 yards in losses and five sacks for -25. He also had one interception, which he returned 25 yards for a touchdown against Texas, three forced fumbles, one fumble recovery and four pass deflections.
The 2003 winner of the Hendricks Award was Arizona State's Terrell Suggs, while the 2004 winner was Georgia's David Pollack.
