Sooners Tie Saint Louis In Opener

Soccer Wins Two; Sooners Improve To 2-2 In The Spring

The University of Oklahoma women's soccer team improved to 2-2 in the spring with a pair of victories over Tulane and Texas Christian University in Dallas, Texas, on March 27.  The Sooners played a doubleheader and came out on top of Tulane 1-0 and 2-0 against TCU.

“The weekend was very encouraging,” said Oklahoma head coach Randy Evans.  “It is even more encouraging when you compare it to our last outing when we dropped two games.  The biggest change this time around was that we had more time to play together.  There are a lot of people on the field for us in the spring that have not had the chance to become familiar with each other.  Going into this weekend, we knew that the extra practice would make a difference.”

In the first game of the day, Savannah Scott came up with the game winner and her first goal of the spring against Tulane.  Scott was set up nicely after Shelly Sims and Andrea Hurley produced a combination up the right side that allowed Hurley to feed Scott for the finish.

Goalkeeper Keara Jones got her third start of the spring and shutout the Tulane offense.  The Sooner defense allowed one good opportunity for Tulane to score and Jones made the stop.

“We had a rough first half with a strong wind producing tough conditions,” said Evans.  “It took us awhile to get use to the playing conditions but once we did, it made for a terrific second half in which we created a lot of chances on offense.”

In the second game, the OU offense came up big posting two goals against TCU.  Michelle Enos scored the Sooners' first tally after Scott and Hurley assisted her.  The combo from Scott and Hurley got Enos behind the defense and allowed her to score on a one-on-one.

The Sooners' second goal came from Lauren MacIver who blasted a goal into the top corner of the goal giving TCU's goalie no chance for the save, putting the Sooners up 2-0.

OU's back-line was solid again helping Keara Jones record her second shutout of the season.

“In the TCU game our defense was great again minimizing their chances to score,” said Evans.  “In both games, our defense was better organized and our offense played more focused and with a purpose.”

OU (2-2) will return to action against Arizona State in Phoenix, Ariz., on April 4 at noon.  The Sooners then return home to face Tulsa Soccer 86 (U-19) at John Crain Field on April 24 at 10 a.m.
