Kansas Drops Volleyball In Three

November 06, 2004 | Volleyball

NORMAN, Okla. --  The Oklahoma volleyball team fell in three games to Kansas (29-31, 20-30, 20-30) on Saturday night at the Horejsi Family Athletics Center in Lawrence, Kansas.

Sophomore Joanna Schmitt powered the OU offense with 15 kills but her efforts were not enough for OU to pass Kansas. No other Sooner reached double digits in kills.  Senior Keri Coats and freshman Anna Stadel ranked second on the team with seven kills apiece.

Stadel, a native of Osage City, Kansas, continued to impress in just the fifth start of her career. She hit at .386 clip while tallying one solo block and four block assists on defense.

Freshman setter Julie Chester collected 34 assists, six digs, three block assists and two kills.  She was effective once again when she chose to attack, converting on two of three opportunities for a .666 percentage.

Senior libero Stephanie Tengram eclipsed double digits in digs for the 16th time in the last 20 contests.  On Saturday night she anchored the back row defense with 13 digs.

Coats, also a senior, was another bright spot in the loss with seven kills, one error and a .375 hitting percentage.

Four KU players had at least 10 kills in the sweep. The top among the foursome was outside hitter Paula Caten, who knocked home 15 kills.

The Sooner fell to 2-12 in conference and 10-13 overall, while KU improved to 5-8 in Big 12 play and 14-8 on the season.
