NORMAN, Okla. For the second straight week, a University of Oklahoma men's basketball player earned Big 12 Rookie of the Week honors. Junior guard Terrell Everett was named co-rookie of the week today after his performance at the Great Alaska Shootout. He shared the award with Nebraska freshman Joe McCray.
The 6-4, 185-pound Everett averaged 14.0 points, 3.7 rebounds, 4.0 assists and 2.0 steals as the Sooners took third place out of eight teams with a 2-1 record. OU beat High Point (93-65), lost to No. 22 and eventual tourney champion Washington (96-91) and downed Minnesota (67-54).
All all-tournament team selection along with teammate Kevin Bookout, Everett shot .556 from the field and .667 from 3-point range (6-for-9). The tournament's 3-point line was 20 feet, six inches from the basket nine inches deeper than the regulation distance.
Everett, who hails from Charleston, S.C., and was a second-team junior college All-American at Southwest Missouri State-West Plains Community College last year, was 3-for-6 from 3-point territory against Washington and scored a career-high 19 points.
McCray, a 6-5 Huskers guard, averaged 17.0 points and 5.0 rebounds in wins against Arkansas-Pine Bluff and Texas Southern. Iowa State senior center Jared Homan was named the league's player of the week after averaging 13.0 points and 11.0 rebounds in a trio of Cyclones victories.
OU junior forward Taj Gray was last week's Big 12 Rookie of the Week.
The Sooners are back in action Wednesday night against Coppin State at home. Tickets for the 7 p.m. game are still available for $15 and $20 at the OU Athletics Ticket Office and online here at SoonerSports.com.
