NORMAN, Okla. - Kelvin Sampson and his University of Oklahoma men's basketball team annually host groups of Special Olympics athletes that travel from points across the state. On Oct. 20, approximately 130 athletes from 13 Oklahoma cities and towns met with Sooner staff members and players at Lloyd Noble Center for a morning of basketball fun.

Joining Sampson from the OU family in giving the Special Olympics athletes light-hearted hoops instruction were assistant coaches Bob Hoffman, Ray McCallum and Bennie Seltzer. Strength coach Darby Rich and video coordinator Josh Moser also participated in the two-hour morning session, as did equipment manager Wes Edwards and several student managers. Several basketball players were also able to work around their class schedules, and the Special Olympics athletes were grateful. Sooner student-athletes included Kevin Bookout, Terrell Everett, Taj Gray and Jaison Williams.
Said an enthusiastic Sampson to the large group of visitors at the end of the event, "We hope you all had a great time this morning. But I guarantee you this -- our players and staff had as much fun as you did. We love having you here and can't wait for this time next year when we do it again."
