NORMAN, Okla. Wayman Tisdale, considered the best basketball player in University of Oklahoma history, was named to ESPN's five-man Silver Anniversary All-Big 12 Team Monday. The announcement was made during halftime of OU's game at Texas Tech.
Though he played just three seasons at OU (1982-83 through 1984-85), Tisdale holds the school's career scoring and rebounding records with 2,661 points and 1,048 boards. The lefty was named Big Eight Player of the Year and earned All-America honors all three seasons. He averaged a stellar 25.6 points and 10.0 rebounds over his career. Tisdale's Sooner squads registered an 84-20 (.808) record during his three years in Norman.
The leading rebounder on the gold-medal-winning 1984 U.S. Olympic Team, Tisdale was the second overall pick in the 1985 NBA Draft. He starred with the Indiana Pacers, Sacramento Kings and Phoenix Suns for 12 seasons and averaged 15.3 points per game as a pro. Tisdale is now a contemporary jazz bassist and has recorded several highly successful albums.
Joining Tisdale on the ESPN Silver Anniversary All-Big 12 Team were Rolando Blackman (Kansas State), T.J. Ford (Texas), Danny Manning (Kansas) and Steve Stipanovich (Missouri).
