NORMAN, Okla. In Oklahoma softball's second game of the Oklahoma Shootout in Oklahoma City, the Sooners shut down regional-rival Tulsa, 6-2, thanks to a complete game from junior Kami Keiter. A three run blast by catcher Heather Scaglione powered the Sooners past North Texas by a score of 5-1 in OU's second game of the day.
In the first game Keiter threw a complete game, giving up two earned runs on six hits while striking out six Golden Hurricane hitters.
In the third inning, OU used four consecutive doubles to put three runs on the board and take an early 4-0 lead. Junior Christina Enea began the charge with a two out double and was followed by Scaglione, freshman Stacia Aleman and freshman Alison Horne, who notched doubles of their own. Horne and Scaglione each went 2-for-3, with two and one RBI's, respectively.
Aleman and Jessica Leslie also turned in 1-for-2 performances, with Aleman picking up an RBI.
In the second game of the day, sophomore Nicole Denes threw four innings of one run ball and registered the win over North Texas. Denes had six strikeouts and allowed just two hits. She was relieved by Keiter who threw two innings of one hit ball to close the game.
The big blast came from Scaglione who hit a three-run homer in third inning to plate Enea and freshman Norrelle Dickson. Dickson was perfect on the evening, going 3-for-3 with a three singles. Enea went 2-for-3 in the game and registered one RBI.
The rest of OU's offense in the 5-1 victory came in the fourth inning. Kristin Vesely started the rally with a single and was moved up on a base knock by Dickson. Dickson scored on an Enea single, while Enea came home on a throwing error by the Mean Green catcher.
Marie Mena finished the night with a 2-for-3 performance, while Scaglione went 1-for-2 with the three big RBI's.
OU closes the tourney with a pair of Sunday games against Carl Albert State (11:45 a.m.) Southwestern Oklahoma State (3:45 p.m.).
