NORMAN, Okla. For the second straight game, OU's defense provided a shutout and the offense tallied two goals as the Sooners won their third straight contest with a 2-0 decision over Tulsa at John Crain Field Sunday night.
The first half was a defensive battle, but sophomore midfielder Lauren MacIver scored her second goal of the season to put OU on the scoreboard in the 73rd minute. MacIver's goal was made possible thanks to a couple of crisp passes from Becky Nelson and Savannah Scott, who were credited with the double-assist.
Just over a minute later, Scott and Nelson got going again on offense, providing the insurance goal at 73:32. The goal marked the first of Scott's collegiate career and her third point of the night. Scott also registered three shots in the game as senior Logan Womack shot four times.
'Savannah Scott is incredibly talented and we have been waiting for this time, where she would just break out and score,' said head coach Randy Evans. 'And we could not have asked for a better time as the conference portion of the schedule starts next weekend.'
'It feels great to get the first goal of my career,' said Scott. 'I am just so excited and hopefully now that I got that first score, more will follow.'
Nelson's assists on the night were her first and second of the season. She fired three shots on the night.
MacIver led the way with nine shots after posting eight on Friday night against Oral Roberts. MacIver leads the team in shots takenwith 30 this season.
For the second straight game, junior goalkeeper Catherine Wade impressed the crowd at John Crain Field notching her second shutout of 2003. She saved six shots on the night and improved to 5-2-1 in goal for OU.
The Sooners are now 5-2-1 as Tulsa fell to 3-4-1. OU will return to action for two games again next weekend at John Crain Field, with No. 4 Texas A&M on Friday at 7:30 p.m. and No. 9 Texas on Sunday at 1 p.m.
