Womens Soccer Team Picked Sixth In Preseason Big 12 Poll

Soccer Tops ORU, 2-0; Womack Breaks School Points Record

NORMAN, Okla. The University of Oklahoma's soccer team returned home for the first time in two weeks and picked up right where they left off, winning 2-0 over visiting Oral Roberts at John Crain Field tonight.

Not only did the Sooners pick up their second consecutive win and fourth win this season, but senior forward Logan Womack scored her fourth goal of the season, giving her the new all-time points mark at OU.  The Norman native now has 68 points, putting her past the old mark of 67 set by Krissy Dawson.  Womack also holds the school's all-time goals mark, which now sits at 32.

'Logan is in her last year and she is showing the determination, hustle and fight that makes her the skilled player that she is,'  said OU soccer head coach Randy Evans.  'She is able to create scoring chances for herself and that is really what she has done, when you go back to her two previous goals, tonight's goal was a big boost.'

Womack netted the goal in the 24th minute on a corner kick from Lauren MacIver that got knocked to the ground and put right at Womack's foot for the open score.  She now leads the team in goals and MacIver received credit for the assist bumping her team-leading total to four.  The Crimson and Cream outshot the Golden Eagles 7-4 in the first half, controlling possession a majority of the opening half.

'A lot of my determination comes from the fact that I am playing in my last year,'  said Womack.  'I just want to end my career here on a good note and I am doing my best to contribute and to help out the team.  The record is great but ultimately the win tonight means more.'

The second half featured more of the same, as OU controlled the ball and outshot ORU, 12-6 in the period.  Senior Jessica Talton joined in on the scoring, tallying her second goal of the season on an unassisted play.  Womack had three shots in the game and so did sophomore midfielder Becky Nelson.  MacIver led the offensive attack with a season high eight shots.  The team's game total of 19 shots, was also a season high.

Goalie Catherine Wade, fresh off her Big 12 Defensive Player of the Week accolades, collected six saves in the contest, improving her season mark to 4-2-1.  Her opposition, Kellie Fenton, saved four shots in the loss that drops her to 3-3.

Friday's game was the first of two on the night in the annual Oklahoma Shootout, the other match featured Oklahoma State versus Tulsa in Stillwater at 7 p.m.  OU will enter final play of the tournament on Sunday with a 4-2-1 overall record against Tulsa at 7:30 p.m.  Oklahoma State against Oral Roberts will be played before the Sooners' match, starting at 4:30 p.m. and both games will be played at John Crain Field.   Fans who present their OU vs. UCLA ticket stub will receive a special $2 admission into the Sooners' 7:30 p.m. contest.
