Meet the Sooners On Wednesday, Aug. 6th

August 04, 2003 | Football

The University of Oklahoma Athletics Department will conduct its annual Meet the Sooners event, which is sponsored by McDonald's, on Wednesday, Aug. 6, on the practice fields located just south of Gaylord Family - Oklahoma Memorial Stadium.

Entry into the event will be through Gate 1 at the southwest corner of the stadium. Members of the Sooner Kids' Club presented by McDonald's will be admitted into the event, along with a parent or guardian, beginning at 10 a.m. All other will be admitted at 10:30 a.m. Fans are encouraged to arrive early to ensure admittance into the event. The first 10,000 fans will receive a commemorative poster to be autographed. Fans may elect to have an item other than the poster autographed but will be limited to one autograph item per person.

Players will be grouped by position with the coaches stationed at a separate set of tables. Those interested in obtaining an autograph will proceed through the line and receive autographs from the players/coaches seated at that station. The autograph session will end promptly at noon. The Sooners will conduct a closed practice later that afternoon.

Bag check policies similar to those conducted at OU home games will be in place with the exception that bottled water will be the only item permitted on to the practice fields. There is road construction planned for the streets near the stadium on this day. Portions of Lindsey Street will be cut off. It is advised that fans coming to Norman via I-35 take the Route 9 east exit and then proceed to Jenkins Ave. Turn left (north) on Jenkins and follow to Lindsey Street. Free parking is available in all student lots on campus including levels 4-6 of the Asp Ave. parking deck and the Duck Pond lot located off Brooks east of the stadium. Parking in faculty/staff lots will not be permitted.

The event also includes inflatable interactive games. Aramark will be selling water and restrooms will be open on the west side of the stadium. The university bookstore, now located under the Asp Ave. parking deck, also will be open during this event. Due to the final phases of construction on the east side of the stadium, the Barry Switzer Center will not be open. Pedestrian traffic will not be allowed on Jenkins Ave. near the Switzer Center.

In the event of inclement weather, the autograph session will be held under the stands on the west side of the stadium.
