NORMAN, Okla. - The University of Oklahoma women's soccer team was picked to finish in sixth place in the Big 12 Conference, according to a coaches poll released by the league office today.
The Sooners, who return 19 letterwinners from last year's 11-8 team, were slotted behind Texas, Texas A&M, Nebraska, Missouri and Colorado. Following Oklahoma in the poll were Kansas, Oklahoma State, Iowa State, Baylor and Texas Tech. Coaches were not allowed to vote on their own team.
Coached by fifth-year mentor Randy Evans, the Sooners will open their 2003 schedule with home games against Arkansas and New Mexico on Aug. 29 and 31, respectively. OU will play two more home non-conference games in September before starting its home conference slate on Oct. 12 versus Colorado.
Senior forward Logan Womack, OU's career leader in goals and second-leading points producer, will headline a talented group of Sooners. Womack earned second-team All-Big 12 honors last season.
