University of Oklahoma head coach Bob Stoops announced today that he and his staff have settled on a depth chart at the quarterback position. Senior Jason White will enter the August workouts at the No. 1 spot. Sophomore Paul Thompson is listed at No. 2, followed by redshirt freshman Noah Allen at No. 3. Sophomore Brent Rawls holds the No. 4 position.

OU coaches originally said they would wait until August to set the depth chart at quarterback, but Stoops said the choice was clear enough to make the decision now.

"We feel strongly that this is the way we will enter double sessions in August so we decided to get the announcement out of the way now," Stoops said. "Through our workouts both on the field and in conditioning over the winter and spring we were able to determine the best way for our team to go."

OU offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach Chuck Long said that the direction is set for now, but that he expects a competitive situation in August.

"Earning positions is a process that lasts through the winter and spring," Long said. "We've evaluated everything and it's obvious that this is the direction we need to take. There will still be a race and we expect there to be competition for the position when the team reports later this summer."

White, a senior, has been OU's starter in each of the last two seasons, but was sidelined both years by knee injuries. He has played in 14 games at Oklahoma with four starts. To date, he has completed 94-of-149 passes for 871 yards with six touchdowns and five interceptions. He also has rushed 59 times for 255 yards and one touchdown.

The Sooners report to Norman to begin preseason drills on Aug. 6. Practices get underway Aug. 9 and the first game is a home encounter in the enlarged and improved Gaylord Family - Oklahoma Memorial Stadium, Aug. 30 against North Texas.
