Arkansas - Pine Bluff

December 02, 2003 | Men's Basketball
Oklahoma's matchup against Arkansas-Pine Bluff was so lopsided, at times it looked like practice.
De'Angelo Alexander scored a career-high 19 points as the 12th-ranked Sooners overwhelmed the Golden Lions, 94-24.
Oklahoma outscored Arkansas-Pine Bluff, 48-9, in the first half and cruised to its 50th win in its last 52 games at home.
The Sooners held the Golden Lions without a basket for spans of 5:04 and 7:06 during the first half.

"Our practice this week carried onto the court tonight," Sooners coach Kelvin Sampson said. "We have really been emphasizing better defense in practice. They were playing defense out there tonight. Offense might win games, but defense and rebounding wins championships."
Oklahoma's 70-point margin of victory was the largest in the Sampson era. The previous best was 59 in a 109-50 victory over Eastern Illinois on December 21, 2001. It was the largest win since an 81-point triumph over Florida A&M on January 27, 1993.
Kevin Bookout scored 14 points, Jason Detrick added 13 and Jabahri Brown contributed 12 and nine rebounds for the Sooners, who are off to their best start since they began the 2000-01 season at 5-0. They have 27 straight non-conference home victories dating back to a 72-57 loss to Cincinnati on December 22, 1999.
This game served as an appetizer for Oklahoma (4-0), which next takes on a pair of ranked opponents. The Sooners goes on the road to take on Michigan State on Saturday and faces Purdue on December 11.
"It is going to be great opportunity for us," Sampson said. "A lot of people belive that Michigan State will win. What some people see as a problem, we see as an incredible opportunity."
Arkansas-Pine Bluff (0-4) had no player reach double figures. The Golden Lions, who play 11 of their first 12 games this year on the road, were clearly overmatched in their second loss to Oklahoma in as many meetings.
The 24 points was the lowest total by an Oklahoma foe since the 1946-47 season when it limited Warrensburg to 21 points in a 49-21 home win.
