NORMAN, Okla. After being named to the Academic All-Big 12's First Team, Oklahoma's Erin Young and Christy Kenkel collected more accolades on Thursday, being named to the CoSIDA Academic All-District VI Second Team.
In order to qualify, candidates must possess a 3.20 grade-point average or higher, have at least a sophomore standing and they must have competed in 50 percent of their' teams games this season.
The honor is Young's third of this week, as she was also named to the All-Big 12 Second Team. Kenkel was the only member from the Big 12 that held down a perfect 4.0 grade-point average and was one of five total in District VI.
Young and Kenkel are key components of a Sooner defense that has held opponents this season to one goal or less in 12 contests including four shutouts. OU is 8-5-5 and hold the No. 6 seed in the Big 12 Tournament which starts today with the Sooners taking the field against No. 3 Kansas at 7:30 in San Antonio, Texas at Blossom Soccer Stadium.
