NORMAN, Okla. The OU soccer team took their first ever top-25 ranking on the road last weekend and did not suffer a loss, tying Iowa State in Ames on Friday (2-2 in 2OT) and defeating Missouri in Columbia on Sunday (2-1 in OT).
As a result, the Sooners (7-3-2 / 2-1-1) have gained more national respect, receiving the No. 25 ranking in the Soccer Buzz Magazine National top-25 poll. On top of that feat, OU moved up to No. 18 in the NSCAA/adidas top-25 rankings. The Sooners were tabbed No. 24 in that same poll a week ago.
In addition to the national poll, the Sooners are also ranked third - up one spot - in the NSCAA/adidas Central Region poll. Ahead of OU are Big 12 foes Texas A&M at No. 1 and Colorado at No. 2.
In the Soccer Buzz Central Region Poll, OU is No. 5 - up three spots - with A&M at No. 1, Colorado at No. 2 and Oklahoma State at No. 4.
Soccer Buzz polls are conducted weekly throughout the collegiate soccer season and all 300 Division I programs are eligible. The Buzz Voting Panel consists of Soccer Buzz staff only for the 2003 season.
The NSCAA/adidas rankings are conducted by a committee of member coaches throughout the country and are an indicator of the week-to-week status of qualified programs.
