Bedlam Soccer Results In Double OT Tie, 0-0

NORMAN, Okla. The battle of Bedlam did not disappoint Monday night in Stillwater, as the two rivals battled in a physical contest in a double overtime tie in front of a record crowd of 2,307 at Cowgirl Soccer Complex. It was the Sooners' ninth overtime contest (sixth in double overtime) of 2003 and OSU's third overtime game (third double overtime game) of the year. The Sooners are now 3-1-5 in games played in extra sessions this season.

The first half went scoreless as both teams had their chances to score and take an early lead in the contest. After 45 minutes of action, OSU held a 10-3 shot advantage. Around the 37th minute, OU goalkeeper Catherine Wade made an amazing save coming out up near the top of the box to cut off the angle of OSU's Katie Lacey (OU's Ashley Lacey's sister) keeping the game locked at zero.

The second half saw Wade and the Sooner defense do much of the same in shutting down the OSU offense. Early on in the half, Wade punched out a cross that gave the Cowgirls an open shot with Wade on the ground, and then Kirstin Karfonta blocked the rebound shot that would have given the home team the lead in the 56th minute.

With six minutes remaining, Michelle Enos played a beautiful ball across the front of the goal that could not find a Sooner foot, but created the first OU corner kick of the game. OSU had seven corners in the game and OU finished with three. In the final ten minutes of the game, OU pressured the Cowgirl defense with seven second half shots to the Cowgirls' nine.

In OT, OSU had two golden opportunities with four minutes remaining but Wade came up again with one save and the crossbar deflecting the other. In the second extra session, Becky Nelson came out right away with a one-on-one chance that OSU's Kathrin Lehmann made a nice deflection to make the save.

Overall in the game, the Cowgirls led the shot count, 25-14. Wade played another spectacular game, saving six in the contest and her counterpart, Lehmann, saved four. Wade finishes the season as OU's all-time single season and career holder for saves with 139 this season and 288 in her career.

OU concludes the 2003 regular season with an overall record of 8-5-5 and a mark of 3-3-4 in the Big 12. OSU's record is now 11-3-3 (3-3-3). In the eight all-time encounters, the Cowgirls hold a 6-1-1 advantage in the bedlam series. OU remains ahead of OSU in the Big 12 standings by one point and the Cowgirls conclude their Big 12 regular season with Kansas on Friday in Lawrence, Kansas. The Sooners will return to action as the No. 6 or No. 7 seed in the Big 12 Tournament beginning on Nov. 6 in San Antonio, Texas at Blossom Soccer Stadium.
