Antonio Perkins Captures Big 12 Honor

October 20, 2003 | Football

Oklahoma's Antonio Perkins, who tied two NCAA records with his 69-yard punt return for a touchdown last Saturday against Missouri, is the SBC Big 12 Special Teams Player of the Week.  It marks the second time this year that the Lawton, Okla., junior has been so honored.

Perkins tied the NCAA Division I-A record for punt returns for touchdown in a career (seven) and season (four) with his 69-yarder against Missouri in the 34-13 win by the nation's top-ranked team.

For the game, he had five returns for 121 yards--24.2 yards per return. He also returned three kickoffs for 53 yards, a total of 184 return yards on the night, and an average of 23 yards per touch.

Not only did Perkins take one return for a touchdown, but he also had second quarter returns of 28 and 13 yards that set up Sooner TDs.

This marks the eighth time this season that an Oklahoma player has won one of the Big 12's weekly honors.

Oklahoma State RB Tatum Bell received this week's offensive honor, while, Nebraska LB Barrett Ruud and got the defensive award.  A select panel of media covering the Big 12 choose the weekly honorees.
