Springfield, Mo. - The University of Oklahoma struck early with two goals in the first four minutes of the game and coasted to a 3-0 victory over Drury in Springfield, Mo. Friday night.
Senior Shannon Wing scored just 21 seconds into the match on a cross shot past Drury's GK Brittany Kimbro to put the Sooners up early, 1-0. Krissy Dawson provided the assist.
Less than three minutes later, at 3:07, junior Logan Womack blasted an unassisted score to the top shelf of the box from the endline. Womack, a preseason All-Big 12 selection, scored again on a breakaway in the second half at 52:57 to put Oklahoma up for good, 3-0.
The Sooners improve to 3-0 on the season, matching the school-best start of three straight season-opening wins set in 2001. OU has the opportunity to break the record with a win at Arkansas in Fayetteville Sunday afternoon.
"It was a wonderful performance," said head coach Randy Evans. "We came out with a lot of energy and put two goals in early. Shannon Wing provided the spark and Logan played brilliantly."
Evans was also pleased with the play of defender Erin Young, a sophomore from Norman, Okla., and the rest of the backline.
"We were able to play everyone who traveled," said Evans. "This was a good win for us."
The Sooners finish their four game road swing with a date against Arkansas in Fayetteville on Sunday afternoon at 1 p.m. OU hosts SMU on Friday, Sept. 13 at 7:30 p.m. in the home opener at John Crain Field.
