Norman, Okla. - Sophomore punt returner/defensive back Antonio Perkins has become the second Oklahoma player to garner SBC Big 12 Player of the Week honors. He captured the special teams award for this week following a standout performance against South Florida, Saturday. RB Quentin Griffin won the offensive award earlier this season.
Perkins, a Lawton native, actually shared the honor with Texas' Selvin Young, who had three returns for 85 yards, including a 71-yarder for a touchdown.
Perkins had an 82-yard punt return for a touchdown--his second return for a TD this season-in OU's win over South Florida. His 150 punt return yards fell just 10 shy of tying the school record for a single game, and he averaged 25 yards on his six returns. During the game, Perkins also made a pass interception as a defensive back with a return of 28 yards. The pick set up an eight-play, 45-yard TD drive for the Sooners. Perkins had three tackles defensively, one forced fumble and two passes deflected.
Texas Tech QB Kliff Kingsbury and Missouri CB R.J. Jones won the offensive and defensive awards for the week, respectively.
The Tech QB set Big 12 and Texas Tech single-game touchdown marks with six TD passes against New Mexico in a 49-0 road win. Jones tied the MU and Big 12 game records for interceptions with three in a 44-7 win over Troy State.
