NORMAN, Okla. - The Oklahoma volleyball team has changed the game time of its Big 12 match against Baylor this Saturday from 7 p.m. to 2 p.m. to accomodate fans of the football and volleyball teams. "Super Sooner Saturday" begins with the volleyball match and finishes with the football squad taking on South Florida at 6 p.m.
Coming off a tough loss to Texas on Wednesday, the Sooners look to bounce back against a Baylor squad that has struggled this season. The Bears are currently 6-5 overall and 0-2 in Big 12 play. With a three match losing streak and six match win streak already this season, the Bears are battling inconsistency much like the Sooners. OU had won three of four matches prior to being dominated by Kansas and Texas in its last two matches. Currently Oklahoma stands at 3-8 overall and 1-2 in Big 12 play.
"We need to be steady," said OU Head Coach Kalani Mahi. "Playing consistent, good volleyball is something we have to do against every opponent. We really need to improve our ball control and that is something we will focus on today and tomorrow."
Sophomore middle blocker Candice Woods moved up two spots, thanks to four blocks against Texas, and is currently ranked third in the Big 12 in blocks per game with 1.21. In Big 12 play freshman middle blocker Jennifer Adams is seventh in blocks per game (1.25) and senior libero Denise Griffin is fifth in digs per game (3.22). Senior setter Jessica Barney ranks 10th in the Big 12 in assists per game (9.26) and ninth (9.67) in conference action.
Oklahoma completes a short two game home stand Wednesday, Oct. 2 at 7p.m. inside the McCasland Field House against No. 20 Texas A&M. Wednesday, the first 100 fans in attendance will receive a free Oklahoma foam volleyball. Admission is $5 for adults and $2 for children. OU students receive free admission with a valid student I.D.
