NORMAN, Okla. - Texas remained undefeated all-time (21-0) against Oklahoma volleyball with a sweep, 30-22, 30-22, 30-19 at Gregory Gymnasium on the UT campus tonight. Oklahoma fell to 3-8 on the season and 1-2 in Big 12 play. Texas improved to 9-3 and 1-2 in conference matches.
"It's always disappointing to lose in the Big 12," said OU Head Coach Kalani Mahi. "We've got some things we have to improve before we play Baylor on Saturday. If we improve our consistency we can be successful against Baylor."
Offensively, OU was led by senior outside hitter Megan O'Connell who put away 11 kills, had 5 digs and hit .296 (11K-3E-27TA). Junior outside hitter Christina Barlow also recorded 11 kills but she struggled with her consistency, hitting .121 (11-7-33). Sophomore Candice Woods had eight kills and led the defensive effort with four block assists. Woods ranks fifth in the Big 12 in blocks per game with 1.18 blocks per game. Senior Lindsay Hoyt contributed 10 digs, while fellow senior Denise Griffin collected eight.
Kathy Hahn had 14 kills and Mira Topic registered 12 kills to lead the Longhorns. LaTonya Coates added a match high 15 digs for UT.
The Sooners return to action this Saturday at 2 p.m. against Baylor inside the Howard McCasland Field House. Saturday marks "Super Sooner Saturday" with the football game kicking off at 6 p.m., just hours after the volleyball match. Admission to volleyball is $5 for adults and $2 for children. Admission is free for OU students with a valid student I.D.
