NORMAN, Okla. - The transfer of Megan O'Connell was unexpected for a number of reasons but welcomed by all involved with the Sooner volleyball program. O'Connell, a senior from Illinois State University, brings some serious credentials to the table.

O'Connell was a member of the All-Missouri Valley Conference second team in 2000 and 2001, after being named to the all MVC newcomer team as freshman. She holds five ISU Redbird records, including the career marks for kills and points.

"I helped recruit Megan O'Connell to Illinois State when I coached there, so we as a staff are very familar with her," said Head Coach Kalani Mahi. "She brings experience, talent, size and energy to table for us. What else can you say."

O'Connell is listed at 6'4", the tallest of any Sooner, and will most likely play middle blocker but she can also play outside hitter. Her transfer increases the total number of newcomers to seven, with one senior transfer (O'Connell), one junior transfer (Yvette Villanueva), two redshirt freshmen ( Leann Chen, Sheena Werling) and three incoming freshmen (Jennifer Adams, Tara Birkinbine and Jennifer Mosso).
